Celebrate NH Eat Local Month!
Join the NH Food Alliance for NH Eat Local Month!
This August, we hope you will join us and over 70 other partners from across the state in celebrating our local food system! During the 31-day NH Eat Local Month, there will be dozens of events coordinated by organizations, farms, restaurants, and others to help you know where you can get local food and why eating locally is both exciting and important.
To learn more about what’s going on throughout the Granite State during NH Eat Local Month, make sure to register for our July 25th webinar, “August is NH Eat Local Month!” with Jen Risley, Executive Director of Monadnock Buy Local. Along with spearheading this year’s NH Eat Local Month, Jen has years of experience in the local food scene. She also works at the Monadnock Food Co-op as their marketing manager after having been one of their founding members in 2007.
Another way to get involved is to join the official Instagram scavenger hunt, brought to you by our Education Action Team. Each full week in August, we will have a scavenger hunt with 10 different things (related to local food, of course) to find in your community. All you need to do is find one of each item, take a photo, and post it on Instagram using the hashtag #NHEatLocalHunt. At the end of each week, the contestant with the most finds from the list, or who collects all 10 first, will win a great prize! The scavenger hunt is a great way to get involved during the month and we welcome everybody from across the state to participate. Check back soon for more information on the hunt!
After the official NH Eat Local Month festivities end, we encourage you to continue to eat, shop, and grow local food. Don’t forget that your own garden, fishing, and hunting all count! Please also consider donating local fresh food to your nearest food pantry or the NH Food Bank. You might want to join a CSA share, become a member of your town’s food co-op, or find a winter farmer’s market.
